Community Scouting
TDS Community Scouting is a structured life-changing programme to promote learning for life through fun and action. It gives our young many opportunities to lead, plan, be responsible, work in a team and serve others, all the things we want our children to learn as they live life with diabetes.
We have fostered a partnership with St Andrew's scout group (STAR) who will help plan and implement our scouting programme. It is also a wonderful opportunity for parents to get involved and share precious learning experiences with their children. We encourage parents or anyone who is interested to volunteer to join us.
Target Group
a) Children with diabetes and their siblings aged 6 to 12. (Cub Scouts)
b) Youth with diabetes aged 13 to 30 (Scouts)
Objectives TDS Community Scouting will focus on 3 key areas:
-
To facilitate learning for life through fun and discovery.
-
To provide a group environment which is intellectually stimulating, physically vital, where children with diabetes can learn various useful life skills so that they can take responsibility to care for themselves and others.
-
To impart diabetes knowledge & skills to children & youths through a safe and conducive environment.
For a start, we will introduce Scouting. There are loads of fun things that our children can do as Scouts. They will have opportunities to try many activities such like exploring, knot tying, tent pitching, First Aid, etc. and will be awarded with badges for their uniforms if they do them correctly.
Scouts also get to go to camps which mean they get to sleep in a tent, doing lots of outdoor
activities and build campfire.
